Berry Province

The Berry Province, situated in the middle of France, is totally unknown from the outside world. There is no breath taking mountains, no wild sea, no fashionable beaches. It is out of the way, out of the hub, out of it all.
Berry is the name of a province of the former French kingdom. During the revolution, in 1790, provinces were replaced by 'departements' for the administrative purpose of the republic. For convenience the current tourist map of the former province now shows the area of Indre (postcode 36) and Cher (postcode18) districts only. The capital city is Bourges. Other cities are Chateauroux, Vierzon, Issoudun, La Chatre, Le Blanc, ARGENTON-SUR-CREUSE.
The size of the province of Berry, i.e. the districts of Indre and Cher together, is 14213 km2, comparable to that of northern Ireland which is 14148 km2.
